Our roles

We need all kinds of skills to reduce the impact of COVID-19. Our work is extremely varied and is split into four high-level functions:

  • Technology

The technology function looks after the design, build, test, and management of all technology across the NHS Test and Trace programme.

The technology function will also move our technology estate to a strategic platform and build a sustainable technology operation.

    Data

The Data and Analytics team comprises of four core groups:

Data Governance & Policy: this group organises a program-wide data policy, ensuring effective governance. It also manages data to ensure it can be used effectively.

Data Architecture: this group delivers data architecture capabilities, resolves data challenges and data quality issues.

Analytics: this group provide analysis, insights and modelling to support short-term tactical decision making and longer-term policy implications.

Delivery: this group ensures effective delivery and manages demand for all requests and initiatives within the Data & Analytics team.

    Digital

Our digital team represents the people who use NHS Test and Trace. We focus on making the service user-friendly and inclusive from beginning to end.

Our design teams place users at the centre of what we do and aim to increase participation, deliver positive experiences and enhance perceptions of the testing and tracing system.

The team includes service designers, product owners, user researchers and customer insight analysts.

  • These teams are the backbone of support for our other functions, ensuring NHS Test and Trace is a successful, efficient organisation. This includes support on programme and project management, financial and people resources, communications, commercial, and strategy and policy.

Being involved in the central operations of NHS Test and Trace is a unique and exciting challenge requiring excellent problem solving and collaborative skills. As you can imagine with a programme of this size and scale, we need a whole range of skills and experience that enable us to constantly push forward, supporting managers and enabling business units to be successful.

  • The laboratories team is a vital part of the COVID-19 mass testing programme, aiming to maximise lab capacity and keep up with testing demands and needs.

  • The Supply and Logistics Team manage the end-to-end supply chain as part of the National Testing Programme.

The team also make sure that products are sourced, introduced and delivered throughout the network while improving and future-proofing our supply chain.

They work closely with teams across the National Testing Programme, including the scientific community, labs and third-party suppliers, to provide a 24/7 service.
